INTRODUCING ARTIST LEANNE BUSKERMOLEN
Meet Leanne Buskermolen, an artist who brings the ocean’s secrets to life through abstract fantasy. Her work is a mesmerizing blend of color and imagination, inspired by the beauty, mystery, and fragility of marine life. Each piece invites you into an enchanting underwater world filled with vibrant coral shapes and dreamlike scenes that capture the wonder of the sea.
How do you describe your art in your own words?
I describe my art as an abstract fantasy, a colourful world based on ocean/marine elements, like corals and sea plants. I want to capture the beauty and mystery of marine life. My underwater paintings often evoke a sense of wonder and tranquillity, inviting viewers to explore the beauty of the ocean. My artwork captures both the majesty and fragility of marine ecosystems, in the hopes of fostering a deeper appreciation for underwater life.
Could you explain your creative process?
My artworks start with making abstract watercolours. I pick two or three colours and start painting and let the watercolour do its thing by letting the colours flow into each other. After the watercolours are dry, I go in and add my fantasy flower coral forms, lines and dots. Finishing off the pieces with white or metallic details
Could you talk us through a day in the life of you as an Artist?
Day in life as an artist… not one day is the same. But most of the time I’m multitasking. Creating the artworks is one - creating the watercolour paintings, drawings or exploring new ideas. The website/webshop always needs attention and artworks that are purchased must be shipped. Right now I am working on making my artwork available for download as well as making colouring pages that can be downloaded for people who want to create or colour my artworks.
What Artists do you look to for inspiration? Any medium!
I don’t really have an artist that I use as an inspiration. But the artists I like are always artists that have their own unique style. I must say, I don’t look that much at other artists anymore, not that I don’t want too but for myself to hold my focus on what I create. It’s easy to get lost when you get too influenced by other artists. I want to create my own fantasy.
What is your favourite piece from the collection?
My favourite item: The pearl linen dress with the big print. And the T-shirt!!
