There are some pieces you put on and feel a little more like yourself. And then, every so often, there's a piece that makes you feel like you're wearing something that means something more. That's the feeling I keep coming back to now that the Prudence Demarchi x Bohemian Traders collection is finally here, and it's the reason I wanted to write to you myself.

A wearable art collaboration years in the making

I've been an admirer of Prudence's work for a long time. I love the way she uses colour. Colour that isn't afraid of itself. Her works have a sense of movement, a warmth that feels less like decoration and more like a mood you can immerse yourself in. Which is exactly why it translates onto fabric so well.

What "wearable art" really means to us

What we've made together isn't simply "art printed onto clothes." From the very first conversation, the intention was different. We wanted each piece to hold the feeling of the original work, the same emotion, the same softness, the same confidence, and to translate that onto garments you'll actually want to wear for years to come. Pieces you can reach for on an ordinary Tuesday and feel a little extraordinary in (always the goal, right). Wearable works of art, in the truest sense.

Two worlds that see beauty the same way

Watching Prudence's world meet the Bohemian Traders world with the ease and effortlessness has been a delight. The belief that beautiful things should also be liveable, has felt less like a business decision and more like two people who see the world in a similar way, making something honest together.

I can't say which piece is my favourite, because I change my mind every time I look at them. But I will say this: I am so thrilled with this collection!!

Who is Prudence Demarchi?

Prudence Demarchi is a Newcastle, NSW artist who trained in Fine Art and Education at Newcastle University. After a decade working in special education, she returned to painting and now creates abstract works in acrylic on canvas from her Newcastle studio. Her art has been collected internationally, featured on The Block in 2020 and 2021, and her textile designs showed at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week in 2022.
